FLEC® constant flow pump
Constant flow type pumps offer the benefit of maintaining sampling flow rates across tubes of varying impedance. Once the pump has been calibrated for the flow range of interest, tubes of differing packings and differing impedances may be used - and all will sample at the same, constant, flow rate.
Two FLEC pumps are available, the standard FL-1001 and the enhanced FL-1003. Both operate at flow rates ranging from 4 to 1000 mL/min and can comfortably cope with high impedance packings. They incorporate oil-free, rotary pumping technology which ensures pulseless operation over the flow range, and can operate both as suction and pressure pumps.
Feedback from the built-in mass-flow sensor ensures a reproducible, precise and constant flow even under dramatic changes in restriction. This means that the pumps maintain constant flow rates through sorbent tubes of varying impedance e.g. during sequential sampling onto a series of tubes using the MTS-32. The FLEC pumps are an ideal complement to SafeLok tubes both for sequential sampling and for operation at low flows onto individual tubes.
FLEC pumps are exceptionally stable with less than 2% variation in flow over a monitoring period. Pumps may be fitted with optional temperature and % relative humidity sensors. When required, pump calibration (flow, temperature, humidity) is easily carried out using Windows® based software.
The standard FL-1001 pump is suitable for stand-alone operation or use within a network and is compatible with both the Chemadoc sampling software and Chemanet network control software. The pump is factory calibrated between 50 and 100 mL/min. Other calibration ranges can be delivered on request or made with the PC based calibration software.
The FL-1003 operates both stand-alone and via the Chemanet software and offers a number of additional features. Calibration (which may be made via the Chemanet software) is over the complete pump flow range (0 to 500 mL/min). The pump may also be configured to stop sampling after a set volume (instead of a time period).
For additional automation the pump can output and receive a 5V trigger signal. This allows external equipment (e.g. an automated sampler) to be started by the pump or for this equipment to trigger the pump itself. FLEC pumps are not intrinsically safe and are normally operated via mains electricity making it ideal for indoor air monitoring applications. However, a rechargeable, 12 hour battery operation option is also available.
